2014 Aspirations

I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas.

This festive season I really felt like I had a break, which is great as I normally take little time off at Christmas.

My new years resolutions are really quite simple this year and all about what am I going to do rather than what I'm going to give up / stop.

In 2013 it was a wish to work less and restore my work life balance. For the past 3 years I've been doing some part-time work as a community carer on top of my at times very demanding full time job, this has left me with little down time. The end of 2013 has seen me give up another weekend shift, leaving me now with only 2 small community rounds that I just can't give up as I do enjoy it and love the people I visit and help.

So many of my 2014 resolutions are more what 'I want to do' with this time apart from seeing friends and family more.

* Spend more time practising yoga. I don't really talk much about my love for Yoga, I often chatter away about my dancing but Yoga is also a big part of my life. I was mugged some years ago and left with a lasting shoulder and neck injury and though Yoga and massage is the only way I control the pain and movement in these damaged areas. In particular I want to visit Beth at Urban Yoga Monkey, she runs workshops in East London that I have been dying to get to.

* Get out the my sewing machine and make attempt to make more of my own clothes. I have this pattern to start with -

Pattern -New Look 6000
* To help me on my way to upping my dressmaking game I'd like to spend a day doing a workshop to get my confidence back and brush up my skills. The one I have is mind is with BooBoo Kitty Couture

*Buy less high street and more handmade / independently made clothes

*Get my pin-curl and wet set perfected

My last attempt with foam rollers and a wet set

 What are you 2014 aspirations?

Beauty is only skin deep

My skin has been troubling me of late, I was fornatute to have good skin as a teenager and have never really invested much time or money into looking after my skin.

Now my skin is far from awful but it's lost its mojo and I've been suffering with little cluster of break outs. Now I know not only a good skin care routine is the answer, I need more early nights, water and to look at my diet.

I have been using a mix of Burt's Bees Citrus facial scrub, soap and a cheap boots moisturiser, no wonder my skin is crying.

I have been reading Caroline Hirons blog. I find her reviews / clinic posts no B.S, with honest and informative advice.
With the aid of her website this is what I bought to best suit what I think my skin needs -

( This is only to be used 1-2 times a week)
You will notice there is one key element missing... moisturiser! I am now looking into a good every day moisturise. What do you use?
I will let you know how i get on with these and if they make a noticeable change to my skin.

Dubai and Oman

As some of you may know, my day job sometimes takes me far and wide, I like to travel but when I go for work quite often it is on my own. This was my first trip to the Middle East; aside my brief layover in Doha on route to Hong Kong.

My good friend Emma was in Duabi at the same time visiting family, so I was lucky enough to have dinner with them, we joke as it's hard to meet up at home due to everyone is busy and Emma lives in another county from me, yet we get to meet up so easily 7 hours from home!! Only us!

Nica - Satchel Review

What a lucky lady I am, those lovely people at Nica Bags kindly sent me their Alicia Satchel for me to try.

Now I love satchels, for me they are a staple in my daily outfits and it's nice to see one with a little difference.

My bag arrived with much grandeur, I was so excited to see the beautiful large box all neatly tied with a satin ribbon.

The first thing that striked me with this bag is the vintage styled embossed patten in the leather, then the pretty lining, but the jewel in its crown has to be that it has an abundance of pockets which all of the satchels I already own do not.

I tend to carry a lot in my bags, so they easily become a ground for chaos and the bag pocket was a prefect size for my ipad and the split compartments meant that my belongings weren't all swimming around together.

I travelled with this bag last week and the ease of having the twist lock at the front, adjustable strap and the zip pockets were of great advantage.
The back pocket is perfect size for my ipad that comes everywhere with me

Pockets and mobile phone compartment
Nica also do this satchel in black and other pretty printed variations you can see their range HERE

Which one do you like best?

"All about me" Tag

I have never before written a 'Tag' post but was invited by the lovely Penny from Lillies and Love to join in and thought what a great way to get to know me better.

I'm Ria, I work as a project manager in the Fairs and Events industry, but my head is more often found drifting off into the world of vintage clothes and fashion. Many people tell me I should be a stylist or work in fashion... that's the dream. I am also a freelance makeup artist.

Does it sounds materialist to say shop..... haha. Other than shopping, I love Yoga and to dance. I belong to a dance club that takes me far and wide for social dances and events. I American East coast swing, Rock n Roll and Lindy hop. I'm at my happiest when out with my friends and loved ones, dancing with a pint glass of rum or beer in hand. When not out dancing I love to potter around my home with my 2 cats Bella and Cherry, 2 rabbits; Mr Augustas Tibbs and Bluebell and tendering to my failing vegetable patch.

Chips and Gravy! Simples......

Become very calm, if I am freakishly calm, back away quickly! You know you have tipped me over the edge!

"And though she be but little, she is fierce"

I worry about anything and everything, I wish I could stop being such a worrier.

I have a few. I loved reading The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, both quite profound books along with Before I Go To Sleep by  S J Watson.

My ipad, It hardly leaves my side

People with no manners. I am an old fashioned girl when it comes to manners, they cost nothing! Unkind people, people that eat like they are a cow chewing on a cud, Fake smiles; people that wish to talk to you just to be nosey but you know as soon as you turn your back the talons come out. Sadly I have met a few of these of late!

Happy and for my friends and family to be healthy, surrounded by the ones I love. I would also like to become totally self employed.

I have been asked to tag 5 people that may wish to also join in this "All about me" post -

Gorgeous Nails......

The lovely Monica of Gorgeous invited me to come and have a manicure in her home based salon.

Monica specialises in keeping natural nails happy and healthy. My poor old nails have been a bit neglected lately so it was a perfect time for a pamper.

Not only was Monica fab at identifying my nails needs but was instantly friendly, chatty and like I was coming to see a friend.

I really loved the shape that my nails were filed and over all they looked neater and happy. I look forward to the next time I visit Gorgeous
