Paws for thought....

I was excited to be contacted yesterday about a press release for the new fashion collection 'Jam' Not heard of this yet? It's the beautiful new collection by Jameela Jamil who has collaborated with Very.co.uk as part of their celebrity style section.

You may have seen I've been quick off the starting blocks already with Jam as I have already purchased the Ponteroma Pinefore Dress and have the Printed Shirt with Shoulder Pads on back order. I think this line is going to be a huge success what do you think?
Let me introduce you further to the line and the thought process behind it.

Jameela Jamil reveals a quirky collection for real women..........

Whether she’s interviewing celebs on the T4 couch or posing for the paps on the red carpet, television presenter Jameela Jamil always looks enviously chic. With her tiny waist and endless legs, the Londoner is the perfect model for pretty much every type of outfit going.
So when it came to getting her paws on her very own fabulous fashion line for Very.co.uk, we assumed the designs would exclusively be for the size zero population. But the London gal has happily proved us wrong, producing a 25-strong collection of quirky pieces ‘for girls who like their cake.’ It ranges from a size 6-20 and won’t break the bank either, coming in at an affordable £20 - £120.

According to Jameela, the JAM collection is a ‘body-con free zone’ (phew!) to help every woman feel beautiful. She’s gone all-out with a vibrant colour palette to help her style fans of all sizes. And her playful designs are sure to inject a much-needed dose of colour into our autumn/winter wardrobes.

Paw Jumper - £55

Jameela put her style where her mouth is at the JAM launch earlier this month. She provided sweet treats, vol-au-vents and cocktails as part of a mad hatter’s tea party theme. The girl herself looked gorgeous in a JAM red floral maxi dress, with a long side split to show just a tantalising glimpse of leg. Jameela says that this is the statement dress that every girl needs in her wardrobe, looking just as fab on a walk in the park as it does putting a bit of glamour into a hot Friday date.

There are plenty of other statement pieces to choose from in the JAM collection, from bum-skimming skater skirts and girly prom Summer Dresses to retro jumper dresses and quirky pinafores. And the T4 darling hasn’t forgotten about everyday style either, with a collection of instant style classics such as skinny rib polo necks and slouchy cardigans – she’s even designed her perfect jeans! Jameela’s statement paw print design is one of the key features of the fashion line, but there’s also a host of floral and polka dot prints to get your retail pulses racing.

Aside from her vibrant maxi dress, Jameela’s favourite piece from the Very collection is the orange raincoat, which was named The Kevin after her beloved make-up artist. The bright colour might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s guaranteed to turn a few heads if you’re bold enough to pair it with plain black jeans, a top and boots
Best of all, the JAM collection is available to buy now and with the British summer taking a year off, why not inject some of Jameela’s autumn style into the festival season? Her frill sleeve playsuit will help to liven up the damp weather, even if you do have to pair it with some muddy wellies.

I know so far I am super impressed with the debut range and will be adding more Jam to my wardrobe :) Have you seen anything you might buy?

Come shopping with me

Hi everyone, have you been enjoying the sunshine the last few days?
Today I have been dashing around in the heat, leaving me feeling all hot and bothered, however my day finished on a high after leaving a very happy 16 year old all ready to go to her prom after her makeup booking with me, I do love my job!

I ordered a skirt and top from ASOS with the idea of wearing them to a special friends 30th birthday this weekend, sadly both of the highly anticipated items arrived and were dreadful, needless to say they have been instantly returned! So tonight I had to shoot off Lakeside for an emergency shop.

While frantically picking up all sorts in Topshop I caught sight of this beauty, I swear the angels sang... ok maybe a little dramatic but you get it.... I just had to try it on and share it with you, I'm in love....

Sorry about the picture quality but as you can see they were taken in low light on phone

Jones+Jones Julia Dress Liberty Print Green Pansy - £75

Sadly the dress is not quite befitting for Saturday night, but I am thinking about it for a friends wedding later in the year, the only negative is it's quite short, but I MUST own this dress so I will find an occasion to parade in it. I checked the Topshop website and this dress isn't showing on their site yet but you can by direct from the Jones+Jones website.

Also I had a little change in hair colour yesterday wasn't quite as I hoped and a lot darker than I was intending to go but I will see how it fades and made a decision if to keep it or try and go red? What do you think?

Jam by Jameela Jamil

It was only last week that I found out that Jameela Jamil was due to launch her own line for Very.com, think I must have been in a black hole when that was announced!
As soon as it popped up online this week I was instantly drawn to two pieces from the beauty's debut line 'Jam by Jameela Jamil'
Ponteroma Pinefore Dress

Printed Shirt with Shoulder Pads
The black pinefore dress arrived today, the shirt is still to come in a few weeks as it's on hold. What do you think?
When taking it out of the wrapping, I thought it looked far too small, but it fitted perfectly, the material is good quality and the fit true to size.

Also what do you think   of my new glasses? They are from the Gok range at Specsavers.

That's One Big Buddha!

Seeing the Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong was number one on my list of places to visit whilst in Hong Kong. Little did I know there was such a long cable car journey involved that went into the heavens to reach it, the alternative was to walk trek miles which would have taken all day! Needless to say I don't have hiking shoes so the cable car it was!
The Cable car went over the sea and 3 mountains to Nging Ping on Lantau Island.

Place your bets please......

Hi all, what a rotten week, the weather is awful where I live, so much so the bottom of my road was flooded this morning.

Here is my second 'What I wore on holiday' post. We also went to Macau in China as part of our trip. Macau is known as the Vegas of the Far East and is a playground for Chinese gamblers and thrill seekers.

We visited The Four Seasons, The Wynn, The Venetian and the MGM Grand. Of all of these the Wynn was my favourite hotel / Casino. On our last night in Macau we went to The Wynn, won some money and had a lovely meal, though this is not the only reason, the general atmosphere in there was far better in my opinion and the interior was very lavish yet you could still relax.

Nan Lian Garden / Chi Lin Nunnery

Hi Everyone,
How was your Diamond Jubilee weekend? I was wowed every day by Kate and her array of outfits. I am a little sad that it's all over.
I was just back in time to get in the swing of the festivities, as some of you know we went to Hong Kong and China for our holiday this year and what a wonderful time we had!
We visited the Nan Lian Gardens and Chi Lin Nunnery a hidden gem slap bang in the heart of bustling Hong Kong. The beautiful serene garden is landscaped over an area of 3.5 hectares, every hill, rock, waterfall, plant and structure is placed according to specific rules and methods.

Guest post - The Beauty Blog With No Name ~ Vintage Lipsick

So, my first guest post. Ever. When Urban Butterfly told me that I had free reign to write whatever I wanted, I immediately envisioned a page full of baby bunnies and sparkly images (please refer to catsinspace.tumblr.com for what could have been a sneak preview). However, I decided to be sensible and write about something which I love but in keeping with the rest of the blog – and that is lipsticks that are either actually ‘vintage’ or based on old archives.

I find it amazing that some lipsticks are still in production; the oldest example I can think of dates from the 1940s. They’re also a much cheaper way of injecting glamour into an outfit than a new dress. That’s right – hold tight all you broke ladies, because I got your back. However, I will spare you from my usual waffling style and list a few of my favourites.

This is only a guide.*The first place you should go to? Revlon. No joke – that brand is essentially the vintage emporium of the high street. And as a proud - and sometimes regretful - owner of 45+ lipsticks, I can safely say that these really are the best. Unfortunately the collection of lipsticks sold in the UK are actually pretty limited, but you can get your hands on  ‘Fire and Ice’ (a bright red) and ‘Cherries in the Snow’ (a red-pink) in most Revlon stockists. These shades initially came into production in the early 1950s, and had some killer ad campaigns to boot. If you are from the US, ‘Persian Melon’ (a bright pink) is also one of my favourites, and came about in the late 1950s.

The formulations of these lipsticks are great, and are easily comparable to those of higher-priced brands. Another brand I’d also recommend is No 7. I also think that their lipsticks are great, although I prefer the colour selection that Revlon offers. In particular, I recommend ‘Gay Geranium’ – which was launched in 1935! It is a super bright, and a borderline neon orange. I adore it to bits, and think it’s fantastic for those who are a little braver with their make-up choices. It was actually discontinued for a few years (apparently it was a little too bright ) but brought back due to huge protests (okay, maybe I exaggerate). Another shade I would recommend is ‘Classic Rose’, which is a universally flattering pink and is in fact my all-time favourite. I actually don’t know the history (if any) behind this one, but it really does seem as if it dates from the 1950s – and is totally reminiscent of some Mad Men-esque glamour. Unlike Revlon, these lipsticks are a little bit more expensive but worth the money as they are relatively long-lasting.

Last but not least, one other shade I’d recommend is MAC’s Ruby Woo. Yes it isn’t as old as your grandma, but it is an authentic, blue-toned red. I am actually older than MAC itself so these shades are babies compared to the ones listed above, but I do remember hearing that a lot of research went into this shade. I haven’t seen anyone who doesn’t look anything less than amazing with this on.And that it is! A little bite-sized guide to vintage lipsticks, all of which are timeless.

*If you want more, I might make a video of me wearing these shades and screaming along to Aaliyah. It will probably make you regret even thinking about purchasing them. And that’s before I go into a terrible Missy Elliot rap interlude. Sorry.
