Last night I had the pleasure of joining my friends to see The Hurly Burly Show. I am a huge fan of Burlesque, adoring the likes of Dita Von Teese, so I jumped at the chance to catch Miss Polly Rae's show at London's Garrick Theatre, which opened it's doors on the 11th March 2011 and runs until 1st May 2011.
This was the first time I had seen live professional Burlesque, and I can happily say that it lived up to all my expectations. We had good seats right in the middle, only 5 rows from the front of the stage.
The wonderfully opulent bejewelled corsets, waspies and staggering high heels were ablaze of colour from the offset. Miss Polly Rae, head of the troupe of seven Hurly Burly Girls, took charge of the stage with her tumbling red locks, classic makeup and adorned some truly beautiful and glamourous costumes.
There was three costumes that really had me in ore. One was a floor length, sheer, feather trimmed black negligee that was worn to writhe around a padded velvet bed. It was that of classic Hollywood 50's glamour.
The second was a salmon bedazzled wriggle dress that had a stunning fish tail bottom and corseted top, finished off with a large feathered plume hat.
My ultimate outfit was from the Orient scene. The HB girls sported cheeky little cut of kimonos with parasols, complete with naughty giggles as the twirled them and bared their bottoms. Polly was also in a cute cut off purple and green kimono complete with a obi that they gracefully removed to reveal red stockings and peephole bras.
Many will say that this is just a strip show, but I whole heartily disagree. Not only does Miss Polly Rae dance, she sings live very well. The supporting ladies are skilled dancers, one even a fire eater! Also this show doesn't take it's self too seriously, there are many comical tongue in cheek moments that had us all giggling.
"It's not all about the boobs and bum"
I would recommend you grab some tickets for this show before it ends on 1st May 2011.
Tickets prices range from £24 - £45.50
