A little Pre-Christmas Sale Haul.

I left the last of my Christmas shopping to the very last minute this year, while mooching around for some stocking gifts I managed to pick myself up some little treats too in the sales.

I'm a sucker for what I call junk jewellery as I tend to change my earrings, necklaces and rings every day. Here's what bargain I picked up -
Miss Selfridge £3.00

Lace Headband - Miss Selfridge £4.00
I originally went to buy this so when i saw that it had been reduced by 50% I was thrilled.
Topshop - £5.00

Topshop £3.00

Happy Sale Shopping

Happy Holidays

I have been rather lax with posting the last few weeks, I hope that as we move into 2011 I will be able to spend more time on my creative urges and post more frequently.

For the last few months I've been mulling over the pros and cons of joining the 'You Tube' video blogs in 2011. I follow the likes of Kandee Johnson and lollipop26 they inspire me to join in with the fun, but when I see some of the nasty comments that are sometimes posted against their video's it makes me think can I cope with this kind of negativity.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and hope that all your dreams come true for the new year.

This weeks Best Dressed

Emma Watson

Wow, how Emma Watson aka Hermione Granger of Harry Potter has grown up! She stunned on lookers at the Deathly Hallows World Premiere this week.

Looking flawless in the freezing London weather, Emma wore a Rafael Lopez black lace and feather dress. To complete her look, she accessorised with Charlotte Olympia pumps, Solange Azagury Partridge gems and a bejewelled Remembrance Day poppy.

Dazzling the red carpet with her short pixie crop that has been a rising trend for young celebrities this autumn, her new crop has received both negative press and praise I think it looks fabulous; work it girl!

Hopi Ear Candle Treatment

A little known fact about me is that I am obsessed by clean ears! I do not help myself either by continuously cleaning them, everyday they get prodded with a cotton bud, which is actually the worst thing you should do. So when I was told about Hopi Ear Candle treatments I made a booking straight away.

Thermal Auricular Therapy (also known as Hopi Ear Candles) is promoted as a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears. Practitioners say that it helps with excessive or compacted wax in the ears, eases sinuses, stimulates local and reflex energy flow and has an over all relaxing and calming effect which is great stress buster.

How it works

I thought the lady was going to produce a large wax candle and then plonk it in my ear; how very wrong I was, they are more like thin canvas like tapers.

The candles work by vaporising their ingredients once lit, (I chose Bergamot and Petunia) bringing air flow towards the first chamber of the ear. The candle creates a mild suction which lets the vapours gently massage the eardrum and auditory canal. Once the candle is placed in the ear it forms a seal which enables wax and other impurities to be drawn out of the ear.

The candle was placed into my ear, only so resting inside the canal, lit and steadied by the practitioner, then left to burn gently for about 7 minutes, then repeated on the other ear.

Once this was complete, I had a relaxing face massage to increase blood flow and decongest my sinus.

As I am foul, I was most looking forward to opening up the filer in the candles too see what it had drawn out. There were some small clumps of wax drawn up from the ear drum but not a great deal.

I think this would be a great treatment if you are suffering from a cold or have problematic ears.

Downton Abbey

Sunday evenings excite me as it means the next instalment of Downton Abbey
The ITV1 drama is set in 1912, in a stately home named Downton Abbey, during the reign of King George V. It follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and the servants who work for them
Set in a time of opulence and elegance for the Upper Classes and a life of uniform and formality for those who live to serve them.

I dream of owning or getting the opportunity ever to wear such a corseted luxurious outfit. My heart has and always will belong to vintage clothing and this programme just further ignites those passions.

I adore the shape of garments in this era and how society dictated what was ‘proper’ for a lady to wear. This is a far cry for our disposable trends of the 21 century.

I find the ladies fondness for hats at this time most alluring, as a hat lover myself I marvel at the creations and beautiful millenary. Most ladies, even the working class would own a formal hat, with the upper classes having several hats or head pieces for all occasions. In this period it was as good etiquette, deemed polite and formal for a woman to wear a hat to such outings as church, a social visit to friends or society gathering.

Looking to the high street, with so many vintage inspired ranges in autumn/winter collections you can easily find some of Lady Mary Crawley key items such as A line skirts and silk blouses that will add a lady-like, grown up feel to any girls wardrobe.

Style Icon - Dita Von Teese

You often get asked “who is your style icon”? For many it will be the likes of Madonna, or Audrey Hepburn, both have undoubtedly been a huge influence in shaping trends and items we still see in both couture and the high street worldwide. Many younger ladies will say Lady Gaga, we have seen her pave the way for high waisted knickers and show girl glam that’s been gracing our shops of late.

Though for me there is only one lady and this is Dita Von Teese. I often find myself marvelling at images of her. Her classic Hollywood glam and trade-mark bold red lips to me are the epitome of style.

It’s not only the fabulous clothes she wears but the grace in which she holds herself that I find mesmerising. Many of you would be shouting “But she gets her kit of for a living”! Have you seen one of her shows? Look at the beautiful corsetry and embellishment found on the show garments. I would give anyone a small fortune if they could squeeze themselves into a 22-24 inch corset and sashay around the stage with such poise.
No matter what trends come and go Ms Teese continues to stay true to her own sense of style, for that that I salute her. Dita you give me real inspiration!

Dita Von Teese, Global ambassador for Cointreau, celebrated this week the launch of ‘My Private Cointreau Coffret’ an exclusive limited edition cocktail kit at London Selfridges. She wore a show stopping Moschino satin dress, complete with the star's signature red pout and flirty flicks of eyeliner.

Here are a few of my Dita Favorites -

BarryM Instant Nail Effect

Wandering around Superdrug looking for a new nail polish I stumbled across BarryM's new Instant Nail Effects. I hadn't seen anything like it before so decided to investigate and for only £3.95 it wasn't going to break the bank.

The idea is that you paint your nails with any colour or brand you like then apply the instant nail effects over the top and this unique cracked design appears.

The only colour you can get this in at the moment is black, however it seems to be flying off the shelves, so it's likely that Barry M will introduce a series of colours.

I do think the pattern shows up better on lighter, brighter polish shades so bear that in mind before application.

Male Style Inspiration

Ed Westwick

Boys leave those checked shirts in the wardrobe this Autumn, go for a more paired down plain look.

A hot celeb that people are raving about for both his on and off screen style is Ed Westwick (aka Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl) Chuck Bass' look is dominated by a preppy undertone and Ed Westwick a edgier laid back look.

Look to him for some inspiration this season -

Signature

Try a signature accessory; you often see Chuck sporting a scarf, be it skinny for the Autumn months or a more functional chunky knit in the Winter.

Cut of of the suit

Modern, slim, and always on the short side, the cut of a Chuck Bass suit offers a refreshing change to the sea of over sized, too long suits I see on a daily basis.  Boys follow trend!

If you are slim your silhouette should be progressively moving toward this cut. If a suit is not for you or your life-style try a smart pair of jeans and a cardigan. Investing in a well fitted pair of Jeans, they will take you well into Spring 2011 and beyond.

Shoes

Brown leather is always a winner. Chuck and Ed often like to sport a boat shoe, which are working their way onto the high street now.

Colour

Don't be afraid of playing with colour- lots of yellows, greens, pinks, and reds. Not only for pockets but for socks, jumpers, scarves and even trousers. If a bold look is a bit daunting, try adding a small injection of colour, a good start is a scarf or a more muted colour, such as a jewel tone shirt.
Most of us are far too reserved in our use of colour, experiment, and you too will stand out in the sea of black, blue, and grey men's clothing this Autumn/Winter.

Swagger

Confidence is finally the most important thing, having the confidence and feeling comfortable in your clothes is key to looking good. This is the most fundamental element if you're thinking about pulling a Chuck Bass / Ed Westwick inspired look.

Autumn/Winter Makeup Trends

Colourful Shadows

Kiss your old champagne and sheer-beige eye shadows goodbye -at least for now and give a bold look a try.
Bold colourful eyes are all over the catwalk and photo shoots. Try a deep forest green with just a hint of gold shimmer or a moody grey or a smokey purple.

This weeks wants....

As ever I am always on the want, here are a few things that are on my August pay day list that I have seen and fell in love with.

Sheer Garter Tights

The playfulness of these tights is fabulous. They would be great to update a classic LBD or add some interest to a pencil skirt. These can be found at Topshop for £8.00

French Connection Wisteria Lane Dress

I love the cut and shape of this dress. This crepe embroidered shift dress is sequinned with beaded tassel shoulder pads.
Graphic prints are going to be a strong trend as we move into Autumn/Winter. This dress would look great teamed with a pair of heels on a Saturday night but also paired down with tights and a belted cardigan.  Team with a leather jacket and ankle boots for a retro party look

This dress is a little pricier at £195 but would be an excellent investment for injecting some winter colour into your winter wardrobe.

Hooded Military Cape.

Military is everywhere at the moment, ASOS have combined two key trends in this coat. This is a real statement piece. This hooded cape can be found at ASOS.com for £70.00 .

Vintage at Goodwood 13th-15th August 2010

My friend and I had a fantastic time this weekend at the launch of Goodwood’s ‘Vintage at Goodwood’

After much fumbling around in the dark late on Friday night trying to assemble our tent for our weekend stay, the challenge was on to emerge a vision of vintage beauty the following morning.

This was the first of what I hope to be an annual festival of music and fashion created by Wayne Hemingway of Red or Dead fame.

He led the celebration of creative British cool from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s & 80s, featuring the leading DJs, bands, collectors, purveyors of vintage clothing and vintage vinyl from each decade, as well as contemporary bands and brands inspired by Britain’s rich creative and cultural heritage.

The site was transformed into a mini high street with areas trailing off to the sides for vintage fashion, clothing along with music and dancing.

As soon as we arrived into the village the buzz was immense, our eyes were met with beauties dressed in full on 50’s dresses, adorned with veiled hats and gloves, RAF pilots , Land Army Girls, to more 70’s laid back free love looks.

There was a dance floor where people were swinging and jiving along to great live bands.

I was so impressed with the effort that people had made for this three day event; I am already planning my outfit for Vintage at Goodwood 2011. This is a definitely a festival to watch, I predict it will get bigger and bigger!

7 Jun 2010

After excitedly seeing the launch of MAC’ limited edition ‘To The Beach’ range; a beautiful seaside inspired collection, with sultry summer golden shades that would be a welcome addition to any holiday make up bag, I placed my order with a kind friend who was doing a small MAC haul.

Then the gloomy call came from my disgruntled friend, not only are most of these items in this edition nowhere to be found in any London stores, with the High-Lighter in ‘Marine Life’ that I had my heart set on totally sold out both in store and on-line. [quiet sob]

This is my plea to MAC……. please replenish stock most urgently or I will have to take to the black market in sheer desperation.

26 May 2010

Hello & welcome from me

After many years of exhausting my friends and family about my interest in fashion and beauty, I have decided that it is about time I followed my true love....

I am retraining to be a makeup artist while still working a nine to five office job, with a dream of one day going freelance full time.

Aside from spending many an hour shopping and salivating over handbags, shoes and cosmetics online, I can often be found in my wellies with mud on my face battling with my alter ego in a rather 'contained' garden, where I try and sustain a self-sufficient vegetable plot all over seen by Mr Augustus Tibbs our rabbit.

Yoga plays a big part in my life, I find it helps bring me back down from the ceiling after a day in the office and gives me some time to switch off.

I look forward to sharing my thoughts finds and whims with you all.

Please feel free to leave a comment or any feedback.

is always beyond our grasp, but which, if you sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
